WEEK OF 11/7/16

Families,

Happy (almost) Conference Week! Here is a look at the week ahead:

Reminders:

  • Keep bringing in your turkey feathers! Our turkey is looking a little bare and it is a fun, quick, and easy activity to do as a family!
  • Our PE Cares Food Drive has begun! Please send in any food with your child to place in their “team” bin now until the 21st of November. The top 2 teams get to go bowling with Ms. Stokes!
  • Conferences are the 7th, 9th, and 10th. Please double check your date and time–I look forward to meeting with you and hope to meet with ALL families.
  • Our school book fair starts on Monday, the 7th. We will be previewing the book fair on the 7th and having a “shopping” time on Wednesday, the 9th (please send in money with your child on the 9th if there is a book you wish to purchase).
  • Popcorn Friday is on Friday, November 18th.

Reading: We will spend the week working on fluency. This means we want to make sure we read at the right speed, use a smooth voice and phrasing, read with punctuation (slight pause between sentences), and read with expression.

Writing: We are reviewing detail, writing multiple sentences on a page, and good beginnings and endings (I know this might seem repetitive but these are the mechanics first graders really need to know! We want to not only practice them and know how to do them but MASTER them).

Math: We are starting Unit 3 where we will focus on unknown partners and how to solve for them (ex: 5 + __ = 9).

Spelling: Are spelling words for the week are he, for, was, play.

Social Studies: Friday, November 11th we will be learning about Veteran’s Day and working on some special activities to help us understand this day better.

Enjoy the half day and have a great weekend!
