Week of 10/3/16

Families,

I apologize for the late blog post! Hopefully the “October News” and specials schedule was able to answer any questions. Here is a look at this week:

SPIRIT WEEK

In honor of homecoming this week, Alward students can show their Eagle Pride by participating in a Spirit Week.  Please help your child celebrate being an Eagle by helping them prepare for the week

Monday – Sweet Dreams (Pjs/comfy clothes/sweats)

Tuesday – Taste the Rainbow (1st grade wears GREEN)

Wednesday – Willy Wonka Hat Day (wear your favorite hat)

Thursday – Now-n-Later Neon Day (wear neon colors)

Friday – Eagle Pride is Sweet (wear maize and blue)

Reading: This week we will focus on the big ideas and messages in a story. We’ll ask questions like, “What does the author want us to learn from this text?” and “What was this story all about?”

Writing: We will continue working through small moment stories and this week the focus is detail. We want to make sure we add dialogue, descriptive words, and that our sentence mechanics are throughout our story (capital letters at the beginning, punctuation at the end, finger spaces between words, etc.).

Math: We will focus on addition this week and how we can solve addition equations. Throughout Unit 2 we will learn multiple strategies to help us solve problems quickly and accurately.

Spelling: This week we will be reviewing the words we’ve learned so far (and, a, my, of, said, the, to). We will also practice writing down the words we hear in a sentence.

Social Studies: On Friday our focus will be fire safety! We will learn a poem, create a book, and learn how to be safe in case of an emergency.

Have a great week and don’t forget to show your EAGLE SPIRIT!

Miss Reisdorff
