Families,
It is finally beginning to feel like summer–not only with the weather but also as we begin to wrap up our year. We are under 30 “wake ups” and it is so fun to start to reflect on everything we have learned this year in 1st grade! I don’t want to get ahead of myself though because we still have the month of May and a little of June left together :). Here is a look at what is coming up this week:
Important Dates/Reminders:
- Alward’s First Annual Literacy Night is Tuesday, May 8th from 6-7:45. I will be in the dunk tank from 6:30-6:45 so I hope to see you there!
- A note went home this week about our field trip to John Ball Zoo on Monday, June 4th. Remember, please have your child’s money and chaperone sign up to school by Tuesday, May 15th!
- We have an Early Release Day on Friday, May 11th.
- Scholastic book orders are due Wednesday, May 16th.
- I have another Donors Choose project I would love to get funded. I know it is near the end of the year and your child will only benefit from it for a short time, but if anyone is looking to donate to a future first grader’s education, please click the link (please do not feel obligated in any way): https://www.donorschoose.org/project/keeping-kids-write-on-track/3153245/?utm_source=dc&utm_medium=page&utm_campaign=project&utm_term=teacher_4883141&rf=page-dc-2018-05-project-teacher_4883141&challengeid=21022529
Reading: We will spend a day learning how to read using punctuation (changing our voice if we see an exclamation point or question mark) and will spend the remainder of the week practicing retelling the story (thinking beyond the text).
Writing: We will continue to work on our informational writing and make sure that as good non-fiction writers that we teach our reader about an animal’s body parts, body covering, food, and shelter.
Math: We will talk about 2D and 3D shapes and how to make them.
Have a great weekend!
