WEEK OF 5/28/18

Families,

It is hard to believe that we’ve made it to Memorial Day Weekend and only have 2 weeks left of school! I know these weeks will fly by and will be filled with lots of celebrations so please make note of any dates and reminders I might send your way :). I hope you all have a fun, safe, and relaxing weekend!

Important Dates/Reminders:

  • Remember there is NO SCHOOL Monday, May 28th due to Memorial Day.
  • Our 1st Grade Celebration will be Friday, June 1st from 12:05-12:35. This will be a family picnic lunch so feel free to join us for the fun!
  • Our field trip to John Ball Zoo will be on Monday, June 4th. A reminder note will go home but please remember to have your child dressed appropriately, bring a sack lunch, and apply sunscreen that morning :).
  • There will be no more homework for the remainder of the year!

Reading: We will spend time looking at story elements such as characters, setting, and the problem/solution.

Writing: We will finish up our poetry unit by writing about an “I like” poem and having a poetry free write where we can write our favorite types of poems!

Math: We will finish up our unit on adding 2-digit numbers and take our math test on Thursday.

Spelling: We will complete some Daily Language Review worksheets and Make-a-Word pages to help us with spelling, grammar, and word families.

Thank you to any of you and/or your family members who are Veterans or are currently serving in the Armed Forces! Happy Memorial Day!

WEEK OF 5/7/18

Families,

It is finally beginning to feel like summer–not only with the weather but also as we begin to wrap up our year. We are under 30 “wake ups” and it is so fun to start to reflect on everything we have learned this year in 1st grade! I don’t want to get ahead of myself though because we still have the month of May and a little of June left together :). Here is a look at what is coming up this week:

Important Dates/Reminders:

Reading: We will spend a day learning how to read using punctuation (changing our voice if we see an exclamation point or question mark) and will spend the remainder of the week practicing retelling the story (thinking beyond the text).

Writing: We will continue to work on our informational writing and make sure that as good non-fiction writers that we teach our reader about an animal’s body parts, body covering, food, and shelter.

Math: We will talk about 2D and 3D shapes and how to make them.

Have a great weekend!
