WEEK OF 3/26/18

Families,

We are in the final stretch until spring break! With two spirit days next week as well as our Mo Willems and Monster Days, we are going to have a blast this last week of school! Take a look at what is ahead for us in first grade (with so many activities I have arranged our week by day and not by subject area):

Important Dates/Reminders:

  • Spring break is from March 30-April 8th (NO SCHOOL FRIDAY). Have safe travels and enjoy your time with family!
  • Our next Early Release Day is Friday, April 13th.
  • Alward’s First Annual Family Genius Night will be on Monday, April 16th from 6-8p.m. Please RSVP if you have not already done so.
  • Don’t forget to double check the calendar for our Special Person Days! If your child would like their special person to come in and read our class a story, please make sure they have a background check completed. When you know who this person will be, please also send me an email with their name and relationship to your child!
  • Send in or email me a picture from your child’s spring break! We will try to guess whose picture it is and have that child explain to us this part of their break. Your child can be in the picture or it can be of something you did or somewhere you went!

Monday: We will have a special read to self time, write about our plans for spring break, practice sorting and comparing data, and complete a sentence dictation and spelling test.

Tuesday: To wrap up our Authors as Mentors unit we will have a Mo Willems celebration day! We will read our favorite Mo Willems’ books, write our own Elephant and Piggie stories, and rotate between the three 1st grade classrooms for some fun Mo Willems inspired activities! *Spirit day theme = Beach Day*

Wednesday: We will have our “Monster Day” which is a tradition for 1st graders! Students may come to school with a blanket and wear their pjs. We will read “Where the Wild Things Are,” write our own monster poem, make a monster craft, and watch Monsters Inc. in the afternoon!

Thursday: We will have some mystery readers come read to our class and will spend the afternoon in our Alward Teams. *Spirit day theme = Dress up like your favorite character*

Have a safe, fun, and warm spring break!

Miss Reisdorff
