First Grade Families,
As we enter our LAST week of September here are some things to be aware of:
Important Reminders/Dates:
- The Scholastic order due date was changed to Wednesday, September 20th by 4p.m. If you missed this date and wanted to purchase books you may still submit an order.
- Both library books are due on Monday!
- We will have a Walk-a-Thon assembly on Monday, September 25th in the afternoon to get us excited about this great event!
- Homework will always be due on Thursdays (your child has one week to complete it).
- ArtPrize has officially started–don’t forget to stop by the outside of the DeVos Performance Hall to see Hudsonville’s “Only One You” entry.
- This week we will be having a Spirit Week…here is the list of our special days: Monday – Crazy Hair Day Tuesday – 80’s Day Wednesday – Favorite Sports Team (GO GREEN :)) Thursday – Pajama Day Friday – School/Hudsonville Spirit Day!
- Popcorn Friday will be on Friday, September 29th.
Reading: We will work on comparing books, remembering what we read (retell), the big idea of the story, and figuring out tricky words.
Writing: We will review a “seed” story (going down the water slide vs. your whole trip to Great Wolf Lodge), learn about 5 start sentences, and how to add dialogue into our writing.
Math: We will begin Unit 2 which focuses on addition strategies for solving equations.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test to review the words we have learned (a, and, of, the, to, said) and will also complete a sentence dictation where we practice stretching out words we hear.
Have a great weekend–enjoy the summer weather!
