WEEK OF 9/4/17

First Grade Families,

We did it! We made it through our first week of school :). I have to admit, it makes me a little sad to not be in school Friday or Monday–I love the time I get to spend with your child!

I will post on the blog every Friday morning to let you know what is coming the next week. I will post reminders and important dates as well as what we will be working on in each subject area.

Reminders/Important Dates:

  • NO SCHOOL on Friday, September 1st or Monday, September 4th (due to Labor Day)
  • School pictures are on Wednesday, September 13th
  • We have an Early Release Day (dismissal at 12:15) on Friday, September 15th
  • Scholastic book orders are due by 4p.m. on Friday, September 29th
  • Please remember to send your child’s daily news back to school with them every day. They will get a new one each week!

Reading: We will begin Reader’s Workshop and start with what good readers do during this time, the 3 ways to read a book, and learn how to make predictions.

Writing: We will start with a writing “test” where each student will write a small moment story with limited directions. This will serve as a starting point for what we need to review/learn with how to write a story. Thursday we will begin with the process “think, draw, write.”

Math: We will begin using our math books as we dive into Unit 1! Here we will continue to develop our basic number sense and practice writing numbers. We will also start learning the partners of a number (ex: 1 and 4 are partners of 5) with basic addition.

Spelling: Our words for the week are “the, of, and.”

Thanks for a great first week and enjoy your long weekend!

Miss Reisdorff
